The Trib reports that U.S. District Judge Terrence McVerry refused a motion to the civil rights lawsuits against a Lawrence County agency and hospital for taking custody away from a newborn baby’s mother.

The county took custody of the baby on the basis of the hospital’s report that the mother tested positive for opiates immediately before delivering her baby.  In fact, all she had done was eat a salad with poppyseeds just before going into labor.  Geez, they still haven’t figured out how to distinguish poppyseeds from heroin in the bloodstream?
